Earlier this month, in-between booth presentations highlighting the capabilities of the Striim platform at Strata San Jose, Striim CTO Steve Wilkes ventured out of the San Jose Convention Center and walked a few blocks to the Forager Tasting Room, where he was a featured guest on SiliconANGLE’s theCUBE. theCUBE is a live interview show covering enterprise tech, innovation, and the people who imagine, create, and implement the technologies that are changing the world. Steve sat down with Dave Vellante, Co-Founder & Co-CEO of SiliconANGLE Media, Inc., to discuss Striim’s end-to-end platform, industry trends, and thoughts on Strata SJ 2018.
The conversation started with a look at how data management strategies are changing from the traditional batch capture method to more of a streaming, real-time approach. Steve and Dave discussed how, thanks to continued technological advancement, it is more opportune and realistic for organizations to work with data in real time, while it’s still operational, instead of processing and analyzing intermittently or at the end of the day.
Steve provided insight on the importance of data modernization and how companies can take the first steps in adopting a streaming-first architecture using change data capture on its legacy databases. The first step in being able to work with your data in real time is enabling the continuous data collection of any enterprise data, turning everything into data streams.
One of the highlights from the discussion stemmed from an observation Dave made about companies claiming to be an end-to-end solution, but inevitably relying on a third party for part of their offering. Dave asked Steve to convince him that Striim is truly end-to-end, which launched into a great overview of the platform and how the company can meet all the requirements of collecting, processing, analyzing, and visualizing data in real time to properly label itself as an end-to-end solution.
