A Real-Time Cloud Data Warehouse at MineralTree

Challenge

MineralTree’s CTO recognized the importance of providing customers with a live view into their invoicing reports. However, their legacy data stack was not equipped to meet these demands—data refreshes took up to an hour, and rolling out improvements often required weeks. To overcome these inefficiencies, MineralTree faced several key challenges: replicating invoicing data from their private cloud operational databases in a non-intrusive, cloud-ready format; storing and analyzing this data within a scalable cloud platform; and providing rich, actionable visualizations through a business intelligence tool. Compounding these challenges, MineralTree needed a solution capable of efficiently capturing data from a relational OLTP database and streaming it into Snowflake in real time within a multi-tenant environment with multiple instances.

Solution

MineralTree modernized its data infrastructure by adopting a modern data stack, integrating Striim’s real-time data streaming with Snowflake, dbt, and Looker. Striim’s advanced Change Data Capture (CDC) capabilities enable MineralTree to replicate and stream operational data from its private cloud databases into Snowflake, facilitating near real-time insights. This seamless integration feeds Looker, where customers gain direct access to accurate, up-to-date visualizations. With this modern data stack, MineralTree now delivers on-demand invoicing insights, accelerates deployment of new features to under an hour, and provides an enriched customer experience through efficient, real-time data flows across multiple database instances.
