Derek Yammarino, Chief Revenue Officer 

Derek Yammarino has been appointed as the Chief Revenue Officer of Striim. Derek will be in charge of worldwide sales, marketing, customer success, and solutions consulting.  Derek has over 25 years of experience in sales and marketing in the software industry. He was most recently Vice President of Global Sales at Usermind (backed by Andreesen Horowitz and Menlo Ventures), which was acquired by Qualtrics. His career highlights include strategic go-to-market roles at Oracle, New Relic, Signals Analytics, Yammer, and LivePerson. Derek is based out of Striim’s office in greater Dallas, Texas. He is passionate about building high-energy teams and delivering maximum value for Striim’s customers.

As Chief Marketing Officer for Striim, Joanne brings over 25 years of Enterprise IT Marketing experience driving growth and transformation. Her role at Striim includes all aspects of global marketing. Previous appointments include CMO, Lightbend, CMO at Polyverse, and Global VP of Marketing at SUSE, a leading provider of Open Source solutions during a period of high growth that resulted in a PE buyout of $2.5bn. Joanne has led and operated all areas of marketing and is passionate about building high-performing teams. Joanne holds an MBA in Marketing and lives and works remotely in Seattle, WA.

Phillip Cockrell, Senior Vice President of Business Development

As Senior Vice President, Business Development, Phillip brings over 20 years of industry experience to Striim. He will be responsible for building Striim’s partner ecosystem across customers, partners, and third-party vendors. Before joining, Phillip led business development at Quali, responsible for strategic partnerships and corporate development initiatives. Previously Phillip was VP of Global Alliances at SUSE, the world’s largest independent open source company. Phillip’s group was responsible for strategic relationships with SUSE’s top-tier partners such as AWS, Dell, Fujitsu, HPE, IBM, Microsoft Azure, and SAP, which drove nine consecutive years of significant expansion and material growth that resulted in a PE buyout of $2.5bn.

Over the last 20 years, Geoff has held various leadership roles at companies such as Microstrategy and Oracle and led technical teams focused on business intelligence, real-time analytics, and data integration. Based out of London, Geoff is looking forward to building a successful team with many happy customers across the EMEA region.

Key Features released in Striim 3.10.1 are directly available through Snowflake Partner Connect to enable rapid movement of enterprise data into Snowflake. To further enhance this key capability, the following features have been added in the 3.10.1 release:

  • Support for the Google BigQuery Streaming API, enabling real-time analytics in BigQuery on large scale data within seconds, as well as helping with quota issues than can be faced by high volume customers
  • Optimized delivery to Snowflake and Azure Synapse that facilitates compacting multiple operations on the same data to a single operation on the target resulting in much lower change volume
  • Delivery to MongoDB cloud and Mongo DB API for Azure Cosmos DB
  • Delivery to Apache Cassandra, DataStax Cassandra, and Cassandra API for Azure Cosmos DB
  • Support for delivery of data in Parquet format to Cloud Storage and Cloud Data Lakes to further support cloud analytics environments

Schema Conversion to Simplify Cloud Adoption Workflows

As part of many cloud migration or cloud integration use-cases, especially during the initial phases, developers often need to create target schemas to match those of source data. Striim adds the capability to use source schema information from popular databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL and create appropriate target schema in cloud targets such as Google BigQuery, Snowflake and others. Importantly, these conversions understand datatype and structure differences between heterogeneous sources and targets and act intelligently to spot problems and inconsistencies before progressing to data movement.

Enhanced Monitoring, Alerting and Diagnostics

On-going data movement between on-premise and cloud environments for migrations, or powering reporting and analytics solutions, are often part of an enterprise’s critical applications. As such they demand deep insights into the status of all active data flows. Striim 3.10.1 adds the capability to inherently monitor data from its creation in the source to successful delivery in a target, generate detailed lag reports, and alert on situations where lag is outside of SLAs. In addition, this release provides detailed status on checkpointing information for recovery and high availability scenarios, with insight into checkpointing history and currency.

Simplifies Working with Complex Data

As customers work with heterogeneous environments and adopt more complex integration scenarios, they often have to work with complex data types, or perform necessary data conversions. While always possible through user defined functions, this release adds multiple commonly requested data manipulation functions out of the box. This simplifies working with JSON data and document structures, while also facilitating data cleansing, and regular expression operations.

On-Going Support for Enterprise Sources

As customers upgrade their environments, or adopt new technologies, it is essential that their integration platform keeps pace. In Striim 3.10.1 we extend our support for the Oracle database to include Oracle 19c, including change data capture, add support for schema information and metadata for Oracle GoldenGate trails, and certify our support for Hive 3.1.0

Striim Security Enhancements

More Robust End-to-End Security for Streaming Integration to the Cloud

Striim has been on a multi-year campaign to establish the Striim platform as the gold standard for security in continuous data integration to the cloud. This latest release introduces several significant data protection enhancements.

  • Striim KeyStore is a new secured repository for passwords and encryption keys that reduces vulnerability by centralizing the administration of encryption keys.
  • Algorithms for password encryption have been significantly strengthened.
  • Inter-node cluster communication is secured with stronger encryption algorithms.
  • Multi-layered application security now allows exported applications that contain passwords or other encrypted values to be protected with a second level of encryption.
  • Encryption for permanent files based on customer-provided keys is now available in the Striim FileWriter and for the intermediate temporary files using the Google Cloud Storage Writer.

Enhanced Data Accountability

Developers often need to retrieve events that have been discarded by the application for purposes such as replay, testing and auditing. Striim 3.9.8 introduces an application-specific exception store that can be used to store these discarded events.

Higher Performance and Scalability

The new release also introduces performance enhancements for customers using multiple server nodes in a cluster. Administrators have more flexible options than ever for distributing and processing large data volumes in streams or windows by specifying data and metadata for partitioning. This enables load-balancing to improve maximum write performance.

Striim 3.9.8 also now offers the ability to configure the number of parallel threads to be used for writing to a target system across a variety of popular database and data warehouse environments both on-premises and in the cloud.

Faster and Easier Development

Developers can also tap into a host of new user productivity enhancements.

Transformer for in-flight data enrichment enables streaming data to be enhanced without any manual coding using Striim’s drag-and-drop UI. For example, ZIP Code data can be automatically enriched with city and county name fields using real-time lookup. Developers also have the option to enrich data with lookups from external data stores using an in-memory cache.

The option to use sample data for continuous queries to reduce compute and storage requirements. Users can choose to use only a portion of streaming data to speed computation and see results more quickly, a feature that’s particularly useful in high-volume streaming scenarios.

Dynamic output names for write operations that enable such variables as data, metadata and user data fields to be automatically applied to files and objects in Microsoft Azure Data Lake Store Gen 1 and Gen 2, Azure Blob Storage, Azure File Storage, Google Cloud Storage, Apache HDFS and Amazon S3.

A simpler user experience speeds application development with new UI options for configuring complex adapter properties such as rollover policy, flush policy, and encryption policy.

Broader Extensibility

SAP HANA is now supported as a target for direct integration, enabling users of SAP’s transactional / analytical database to rapidly develop time-sensitive analytics applications. Expanded HTTP Reader capabilities allow custom responses to be sent back to the requestor and responses to be deferred until events reach a corresponding HTTP Writer. This enables users to build REST services using Striim.

Striim Announces Incremental Data Capture from Google Cloud Spanner; Enhanced Delivery to Google Cloud Pub/Sub

GOOGLE CLOUD NEXT, LONDON, UK – November 19, 2019 – Striim, provider of an enterprise-grade platform for streaming data integration to the cloud, today announced the availability of incremental data capture from Google Cloud Spanner databases, as well as enhanced real-time data delivery to Google Cloud Pub/Sub for high data volume environments.

Striim’s new 3.9.7 release introduces the ability to capture incremental data from Cloud Spanner to support downstream services and applications that depend on timely data access. Striim has long provided real-time data movement and stream processing to Cloud Spanner from on-premises systems and other cloud databases. Now, operational data – such as inventory and sales data in a retail use case – can be collected from Cloud Spanner and continuously distributed to other Google Cloud services.

In version 3.9.7, Striim enhanced its Google Cloud Pub/Sub Writer’s throttling capabilities to support extreme data volumes.

Striim also launched bi-directional replication – including a new loop detection feature – to seamlessly move applications to Google Cloud in an online, phased manner while minimizing risks. Striim offers bi-directional replication for Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB databases.
