New Striim Release Further Bolsters SQL-based Streaming and Database Connectivity for Kafka

End-to-End, SQL-based Streaming Data Platform Simplifies and Speeds Delivery of Kafka-driven Analytics Applications; Augments Exactly Once Processing Guarantees

PALO ALTO, CA, August 28, 2017 – Striim, Inc., provider of the leading end-to-end, real-time data integration and streaming analytics platform, today announced that it has launched version 3.7.4 of the Striim platform, bolstering its ease of use, connectivity, manageability, and scalability for delivering streaming analytics applications involving Apache Kafka.

The Striim platform’s enterprise-grade, Apache Kafka integration and SQL-based Kafka data processing has been generally available for several product releases, and boasts numerous deployments among Fortune 500 customers. These customers are using the Striim solution to enable high-volume, high-velocity data correlation and analytics involving Kafka data, along with other enterprise data sources. Based on input from these production customers, Striim has further strengthened the platform’s ease-of-use, connectivity, manageability, and scalability in support of Kafka-related deployments.

“It’s a daunting challenge, integrating multiple tiers when building Streaming Applications with Kafka as an underlying message store. Striim makes that problem go away,” said Alok Pareek, co-founder and EVP of Products at Striim. “For several years, Striim has been the leader in defining an integrated Streaming Data Platform that includes not just Kafka, but also SQL-based applications and universal connectivity with a wide variety of event delivery semantics. With the 3.7.4 release, we have added Kafka diagnostic utilities, advanced monitoring metrics, and additional connectors to reduce the complexity of managing Kafka in production environments.”

Striim 3.7.4 introduces new utilities specifically designed to speed the adoption of Kafka as part of an end-to-end flow. These utilities help users quickly and easily scale Kafka applications by gathering baseline performance metrics for real world applications that involve parsing, formatting, buffer management, and external connectivity. These enhancements in the Kafka producer, consumer, and broker metrics help increase the monitoring, manageability and scalability of Kafka streaming applications.

SQL-query-based processing and analytics, a drag-and-drop UI, configuration wizards, and custom utilities such as these make the Striim platform the easiest solution to deliver end-to-end streaming integration and analytics applications involving Kafka.

In addition, Striim has bolstered the platform’s connectivity with hundreds of data sources and targets to include a new real-time Smart NetFlow Reader. The Striim Cloud Readiness offering for Kafka has also been expanded, enabling writing from Kafka queues to AWS Redshift and S3, Google Cloud, and several Microsoft Azure solutions including Azure SQL Server, Azure Storage, and Azure HDInsight.

In the area of Kafka stream processing, Striim has augmented its solution’s Exactly Once Processing (E1P) guarantees across the data pipeline, spanning the entire end-to-end streaming architecture. Because Apache Kafka is built into the Striim platform, a parallel Kafka stream can act as an intermediary persistent store, helping to ensure that users are processing and writing data once and only once.

About Striim + Apache Kafka

The Striim platform offers end-to-end, real-time data integration and streaming analytics across all aspects of streaming data management, including Kafka. With the Striim solution, companies can continuously ingest from Kafka as a data source, and/or continuously write to Kafka as a target. The Striim offering also ships with Apache Kafka built into the platform, allowing Kafka to become transparent to the user, and its capabilities harnessed without having to code APIs.

Read more about how Striim helps companies get more from their Apache Kafka implementation in our new blog series, “Making the Most of Apache Kafka.” Or download Striim v3.7.4 and try out these recent enhancements for Kafka users.

TechTarget Q&A: What you need to know about real-time streaming analytics

“End-of-day batch processing is great for understanding what happened yesterday. Real-time streaming analytics provides up-to-the-millisecond intelligence.” This is how Joel Shore, news writer for TechTarget’s SearchCloudApplications site, highlights the benefits of real-time streaming analytics as opposed to traditional methods in his Q&A session with Steve Wilkes, founder and CTO of Striim.

Life moves at an event-driven pace, not batch capture, so being armed with information the moment data is created is important, especially in fast-paced environments such as finance and retail where the data is only actionable for so long.

One standout conversational topic in the interview is when Steve talks about the importance of in-memory processing for streaming analytics. Based on the incredible amount of data the world is generating today, it’s no longer feasible to store data and analyze it later. Steve states, “When you think about real-time processing, you have to decide: What is it that I need to know right now, and what is it about my data that could make it volatile or perishable?”

Rather than landing on disk fist, in-memory computing (IMC) allows companies to gain insights from their data while it’s streaming before it loses operational value, thus allowing for critical data-driven decision-making.

While at Cloud Expo, Steve presented a track entitled, “Streaming Analytics at the Intersection of IoT, Enterprise and Cloud: Four Case Studies.” Following this session, Joel and Steve discussed at length how streaming analytics can be used in environments such as cloud, on-premise and at the edge. In their Q&A, they further discuss the flexibility and integration of streaming analytics in these digital environments.

With memory costs dropping and processing growing more powerful, streaming analytics is the evolutionary next step in data management. Learn more about what Steve has to say by reading this Q&A: What You Need to Know About Real-Time Streaming Analytics.

Cloud Computing: Data Striim-ing for Real-time Actionable Business Intelligence

In a feature article on Cloud Computing Magazine, Steve Wilkes spoke with TMCNet’s Eric Linask about the capabilities of Striim and how our platform is helping modernize the way enterprise companies interact and use data to drive actionable business intelligence – all in real time.

An important element of the conversation pertained to the current adoption and future direction of data management. With data being born from a variety of sources, Steve discussed how the storage and analysis of these volumes of data is one of the main obstacles in providing access to real-time business information.

The world is producing more data than can be physically stored, so it’s critical for enterprise companies to 1) ingest and store only the most relevant information, and 2) gain insights on this data before it loses operational value.

To put it in perspective, Steve provided this great consumer analogy on the navigation app, Waze:

“‘Imagine sitting in traffic for several hours, then getting home and receiving an email or alert telling you there was an accident three hours ago and try a different route,’ he says. ‘That’s not very useful.’”

This same concept applies to the enterprise – companies need to be able to act on their data while it’s relevant, and a “streaming-first” approach is the only logical way to do this moving forward.
